Manchester United and Portugal Striker Cristiano Ronaldo is set to lose at least £5 million due to Manchester United’s miserable season, according to the UK Mirror.
Ronaldo took a big pay cut to re-join United from Juventus last summer.
The 37-year-old swapped his basic £800,000-a-week salary in Italy for a £450,000-a-week, two-year deal with United.
However, the contract contains a number of significant add-ons, so that Ronaldo can make up the difference.
Many of those add-ons were predicated on United enjoying a successful 2021/2022 season that has already all but ended in March.
Ralf Rangnick’s side had already crashed out of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup before exiting the Champions League in the round-of-16 stage.
Ronaldo was in line to earn £2.5m had United won the Champions League, while he would have pocketed personal bonuses relating to the Premier League – from a title triumph to a top-four finish – which would have doubled that tally.
The Portugal captain is still likely to earn add-ons from finishing as the club’s top scorer this term given his 18 goals in all competitions.
